Project overview

Emergn is a global business services firm on a mission to improve the way people and companies work. Their work helps companies turn their creative ideas into impactful customer experiences and consumer products.

This project was our third collaboration with Yonder consulting, who developed Emergn’s new brand, and designed the website. We developed the site to ensure that it would support the functionality required for the new design, co-creating a visually stunning website that delivers results.

Responsive mega menu

In order to make it easier for Emergn to showcase their recent work, we developed a responsive mega menu, which includes options to highlight featured posts and recent case studies.

Careers platform integration

As Emergn always has several opportunities available all over the world, they have their own careers platform, Pinpoint. To integrate this into the new site, we created a WordPress plugin that pulls the job information from Pinpoint, and creates them as posts on the careers page.

Lottie file Gutenberg block

An important requirement for the new site was the ability to add the impactful typographic animations that Yonder designed, to bring Emergn’s ‘Ideas to Impact’ tagline to life. For this, we created a special Lottie file Gutenberg block.

Lottie is a library for Android, iOS, Web, and Windows that parses Adobe After Effects animations exported as json with Bodymovin, and renders them natively on mobile and on the web. This allows us to add lightweight animations to the pages, keeping the carbon emissions down. For example, the animation on the homepage is  500MB when exported as an mp4 file. When we converted it to a Lottie file, not only was it reduced to 500KB – a 90% reduction! – but also, because Lottie files comprise vectors, the images are also more crisp and scalable.

The result is a high impact homepage animation, that’s low impact on the environment.

It has been a pleasure working with the Wholegrain team. They have built us a website we are extremely proud of and I look forward to working together more as we look to develop the website further.
