As an agency, security has always been our top priority. Of course, keeping our clients’ (and their clients’) details safe has always been a high priority and we pride ourselves on the high levels of security we have in place to protect any data we may have access too. We have now formalised this knowledge, achieving our Cyber Essentials certification.
Internet security in general is now even more present since the introduction of the new GDPR regulations in May 2018, motivating business owners to review security practices both on and offline to ensure compliance. Cyber Essentials is just a small part of maintaining our clients’ websites, giving peace of mind that we ensure this layer of protection against cyber attacks.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme from the National Cyber Security Centre, designed to protect organisations of all sizes against the most common cyber attacks. There are three levels of engagement with this certification, from simply getting familiarised with cyber security terminology for basic security, to Cyber Essentials Plus, which includes verification of your cyber security from an independent certification body.
Why is this important?
Contrary to popular belief, most security breaches are not the work of master hackers. Often, these cyber attacks are the work of relatively unskilled individuals, testing to see whether they can get access to your information.
The Cyber Essentials certification is designed to prevent such attacks, sending the message to these opportunists that security is high. This avoids the danger of being marked out as a target for more in-depth attacks from more experienced criminals.
Our Cyber Essentials requirements protect us and our clients from the most common internet-based threats to cyber security including hacking, phishing and password guessing. They help us to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data stored on any devices which connect to the internet, from phones all types of server and networking equipment.
You can find out more about the Cyber Essentials certification over on the National Cyber Security Centre website.
I am pleased to say we collectively have delivered on the original vision for this site.
