The Wholegrain GDPR blog

Written by Rachael B. - May 17, 2018

We probably don’t need to tell you that the deadline for the new EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is almost upon us. We expect you’ve seen lots of blog posts on the subject already, and received several emails in the past few weeks. No doubt some will still be landing in your inbox up to the deadline date.

You may well be sick of hearing about GDPR.

However, the reason you’re hearing so much about it, is because it is so important. So, we thought it’s about time that we write about it too.

Much of what we’ve read has not been easy to digest if we’re honest. We’ve come across a great deal of legal jargon on the subject that can be confusing at best and overwhelming at times. Which, actually, we think goes against the very nature of what GDPR is:

“…companies will no longer be able to use long illegible terms and conditions full of legalese”

– taken from eugdpr.org

Well, ‘legalease’ is not the Wholegrain way. We definitely like to keep all of our communication jargon free, so much so that we even re-wrote our terms and conditions without a lawyer! It may not be an orthodox approach but it’s certainly one our clients appreciate (and yes, it is still legally binding).

We may not like unnecessarily complicated legal documents but we are committed to protecting your privacy. We welcome the new regulations, which give you more rights when it comes to your personal data, including the right to access all the data held about you and the ‘right to be forgotten’, should you wish any company to delete all of the data it holds on you.

So what have we done to ensure we’re compliant? Over the past year, we have reviewed our practices to ensure that we are fully compliant with the new rules, and we have updated our terms and conditions and our privacy policy to give you more clarity on how we use your data.

What does this mean for me?

In short, it means that we can guarantee that any information we hold about you is secure, and would not be shared with any other parties without your consent. For an overview of the data we collect, how we store it and who we may share it with, head over to our GDPR page.

Do I need to do anything?

If you’re a client, then we have already contacted you directly. If not, then we’d love to stay in touch! We send a quarterly newsletter with our latest news and updates (check out our March 2018 issue), so if you’d like to join the Happy Wholegrain Family, head over to the signup page to give your consent!*

*Or not, of course – your data is in your hands!
