How giving 1% can Catalyse Change

Written by Rachael B. - December 8, 2023

We’ve been a member of 1% for the Planet since 2018, giving 1% of our revenue each year, to support a range of environmental charities and non-profits, all united by the mission of having a more positive impact on the planet.

As we approach the end of 2023, we are highlighting our main partners for the 2022/23 financial year, and we’re excited to share our partnership with Catalyse Change.

Catalyse Change is so named after their mission – to ignite the ambitions of young women and non-binary people with the motivation to catalyse the change they want to see in the world.

They do this by focusing on various ways to inspire and upskill young women to be the next generation of changemakers.

Why women?

Gender inequality remains a key challenge in the UK. Britain has one of the worst records on gender equality at work and women continue to be under-represented in leadership roles, in particular, those that influence policy.

Sustainable and inclusive development is critical for a peaceful and prosperous world. Gender equality therefore, is key to achieving sustainability.

What’s the Catalyst programme?

Catalyse Change work with young women and non-binary people via their sustainability empowerment and green careers programmes, such as:

  • Catalyst Summit & Mentoring: Annual flagship sustainability empowerment and green careers programme.

  • Your Green Career: A brand new book and online course to empower and upskill young women for meaningful careers. This programme also includes monthly masterclasses, available to all those in the Catalyse Change community.

  • Work placements & internships: A formal pathway to support Catalysts into the workplace.

Two groups of young women of mixed ethnicities sit around tables in a workshop environment. On the table in the foreground, there is a large piece of paper almost coverng the table. One woman holds a marker pen and is gesturing to the paper, which has writing on it. All the women are looking attentively and smiling. Two of them women are laughing. The atmosphere in the room is warm and inviting.

Catalyst Summit and Mentoring

The Catalyst Summit and Mentoring programme is an annual offering, which supports women and non-binary people between the ages of 18 and 30 seeking career opportunities in the climate and social justice space.

It begins with a three-day summit, and is followed by a six-month mentoring programme, which pairs Catalysts with professional women working in sustainability, to help them work towards their green career goals.

This year, our Co-Founder, Vineeta, took part in the 3-day summit, joining a panel of professional women in the sustainability field, sharing their knowledge and experiences with the Catalysts in attendance.

The 2023 Catalyst Summit was a huge success. Of a record-breaking 73 Catalysts enrolled for this programme, 62 are now being mentored by women working in sustainability.

Supporting equitable opportunities

As part of our 1% for the Planet partnership, we donated a bursary scholarship for this year’s programme. These scholarships help to make the opportunities provided more inclusive, by sponsoring a young person for whom this programme may otherwise not be accessible.

We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with Catalyse Change into 2024, working together to find new ways to support the next generation of changemakers in finding their dream careers.
