Walking in Winchester: A Laid Back Team Day

Written by Rachael B. - May 18, 2017

This year, we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of Wholegrain Digital in different ways throughout the year. We turned ten at WordCamp London and had cake with the team and some of our clients and friends the following week.

This month, it was time to reward the team with a day out of the office to relax and have some fun together. Our Team Administrator, Mohib, polled the team and we voted for a country walk. It just so happens that May is National Walking Month, so that was a happy coincidence!

We all met at Winchester station mid morning and set off on our walk. We were blessed with lovely weather for the whole day and enjoyed walking by the river, followed by a brisk walk up St. Catherine’s Hill, where we we greeted by a beautiful view….

…and a herd of sheep. The sheep were a little less excited than we were to make new friends, and moved on after one too many photos!

These ducklings were happy to show off their swimming skills for a photo though.

On our way back, some of us went for a paddle in the river to cool down and ease our aching feet.

With Vineeta, our Co-Founder, getting in a little deeper than the rest of us!

We rounded off the day with pizzas at The Stable restaurant before heading home.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to have some quality time getting to know the team better outside of the office, and to spend time in nature getting some exercise – for me, it was a day that allowed each of us to be really present with one another and to really relax and return to work refreshed, with an even stronger bond between us. The feeling among the team was mutual, with my colleagues saying:

LukeIt was nice to spend time with the team and really talk – not about work – and get to know each other better. The exercise was great too, my back pain disappeared!

I enjoyed seeing the parts of England I wouldn’t usually visit. It was nice to learn interesting facts about the areas, like the fact that Jane Austen died there, which I didn’t know. It was a fun day. Winchester for the win!

AminaIt was so peaceful, even the journey time was a chance to share stories and get to know more about each other. I loved hearing what everyone was like back in high school, it’s always good to know about the stories that bring us here today.

As the organiser, it was great to seeing everyone having a good time. I’m really happy that everyone enjoyed the day.

We are already looking forward to our next team day! How do you take time out with your teams? We’d love to hear about any fun events you’ve been up to recently.
